Matocha Goes Green!

At the beginning of the year we started a major consolidation project in the computer room. We virtualized all the servers that needed replacement. We are utilizing less power and creating less heat which helps with cooling the computer room. We also are saving considerable time creating new servers. It's now hours not days, to get one running. In the future, when the main servers need to be replaced, the virtual servers can just be copied over because they are just files.

The computer room was cleaned up too. We were able to remove one entire rack enclosure and disconnect one UPS system. All media was consolidated too. It almost looks empty in there. We are running the entire system on 208V power which is more efficient than 120V. We use less current to power the system at 208V than at 120V. Therefore switches, routers and all other IT related equipment run cooler which will reduce their long-term risk of degradation or failure.

Zazu Salon & Spa – Oak Brook, Illinois Interior Tenant Build-out

When The Zazu Salon and Day Spa decided to expand into the Oak Brook Mall, it was important that the new space reflect the upscale elegance and first-class services it would be offering. The design accomplished a workable flow within the narrow, linear space to recreate Zazu's well-known high end services on a smaller scale. The strong visual impact with contrasting finishes, custom cabinetry and eclectic light fixtures created a relaxing, sophisticated environment. The space includes eleven styling stations, two treatments rooms, three manicure stations and two pedicure stations.

Zazu Salon & Day Spa – Hinsdale, Illinois Expansion and Renovation

The site of the original Zazu Salon and Day Spa in downtown Hinsdale was a well-established popular operation, but its size just wasn't able to meet the volume and demands of its clientele. The adjacent building was purchased and doubled the size of the salon. While the new expansion area was in a separate building, our design included openings through the common walls to create a seamless connection allowing for one continuous space. The original manicure, pedicure, cosmetic/skin care and spa areas were relocated and expanded in the new addition. This allowed the existing waiting/reception area to double in size and allowed for much needed growth for the styling stations and services.

Advocate Health Care Outpatient Facility - Lockport, Illinois Interior Tenant Build-out

This new 30,850 s.f. facility presented multiple challenges. Advocate Health Care was the first tenant for this new building which required close coordination with the building developer to ensure the building was designed to meet the specific functional requirements for this medical outpatient facility. Challenges included situating the MRI away from the elevators, isolating the Pediatric PT Department from all other areas, and sound isolation for the Sleep Lab from all outside noise. We also designed five separate entrances, while allowing for common circulation paths and access to staff common areas. There are six different user groups in the facility including Imaging, Physical/Occupational Therapy, Sleep Disorders, Pain Management Clinic, and Primary Care. Each user provided input during the design process with their personal visions of circulation, function and aesthetics. Our program was able to successfully meet the needs of the users and bring the project in on-time and under budget.

Bricklayers and Stone Masons' Union No. 21 of Illinois - Elmhurst, Illinois Tenant Build-out

To best understand this client's needs, we met with all of the departments at their existing facilities to review functional process of each and to establish a program for each. We performed a building analysis, including a structural floor loading analysis, to determine the best location within the building for the new 450 seat meeting hall, health & welfare, and business departments. We were able to present multiple schemes showing the available options. We worked closely with the client to create a design that allowed each different department to retain their separate identities and functions, while sharing some of the functions of the building. Our scope of work included cost analysis services, removal of a portion of the existing HVAC system, addition of a new rooftop unit to serve the new meeting hall, determined electrical, phone, and data requirements, alterations to the existing security system to meet the owner's needs, selection of interior finishes, and the layout of new systems furniture in conjunction with the owner's furniture vendor. We also developed a phasing schedule of construction work for early completion of the business office portion of the project, and for separate bidding for the different departments.

Matocha Associates managed the design and construction of an extremely aggressive fast track freezer building addition and parking lot renovation for Peapod in Lake Zurich, Illinois. We started planning and design services in mid August of 2009 and the entire project was complete by year end. The new 1,750 s.f. addition and parking lot required Village zoning approval prior to any construction. The project design included three phases: sewer relocation, building addition, and parking lot. We utilized a design and bid method for a precast concrete frame for the building addition in order to proceed within just three weeks of beginning the project. Construction began in mid October. The building addition and parking lot were complete by early December and the owner began installing their new racking equipment in late December.
